1. The Tidal Basin
The Tidal Basin is beautiful. It is a pond that stretches for two miles. At one point, the pond used to stretch all the way down to the Potomac River. These days, the pond is most famous for all the cherry blossom trees that bloom every spring. The cherry blossoms look particularly beautiful reflected on the water of the pond. You can even get out on the water and enjoy the great views in a paddleboat. You can rent a paddleboat from the spring through the start of fall.
If you get to see the Tidal Basin, you are able to take in three additional famous sites. From the Tidal Basin, you can look and enjoy the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. You can enjoy these three sites from afar or you can get up close to all three while you are visiting the Tidal Basin.
2. National Gallery of Art
Next, if you want to take in great works of art, be sure to stop by the National Gallery of Art. You can get into the museum for free, making it a great stop. If you like newer art styles, you are going to want to check out the East Building, and if you want to check out some more classic art styles, you are going to want to go to the West Building, where the older collections are held.
3. United States Botanic Garden
If you want to take in some beautiful, check out the United States Botanic Garden. One visit is never enough, as the exhibits at this natural garden are always changing and giving visitors a new way to engage with nature. The gardens are a great place to learn about the importance of plants in our history and to observe nature.
4. International Spy Museum
One of the newest attractions in Washington, D.C., is the International Spy Museum, which allows you to explore the history and craft of espionage in the United States. This museum allows one to see the different ways that intelligent work has changed over time, especially with the advent of technology. It also is constructed to help people grapple with modern issues of the collection of information.
